Israeli agtech company Viridix has announced that it has raised $4.1 million. The company, founded in 2016, offers a precision irrigation system that helps growers get a clear picture of their crops’ irrigation needs by incorporating a no- ground sensor problem Root Sense and supporting SaaS software. The investors, who are a mix of angel investors and VCs, were not disclosed.
“We are pleased to have the support of our investors, new and existing, as we continue our mission to bring affordable precision irrigation knowledge to farmers around the world,” said Arik Shetrit, CEO of Viridix. “This will help our goal of creating food security and protecting our environment for future generations.
As part of this funding round, Viridix’s advisory board has expanded with the addition of Barak Soreni, former CEO of Psagot, one of Israel’s largest and oldest investment houses, and Oded Shosayov, an entrepreneur and a leading professor at the Hebrew University.
As the world’s population continues to grow, so does the demand for food. Farmers who have to meet this demand are required to produce more crops than before. But the use of limited resources can be more challenging, because farmers work in a way that can be more sustainable or economically thinking of their irrigation outputs. The company’s new Irrigation on-demand feature enables fully automatic irrigation based on crop needs. By using Viridix technology, farmers can save water, increase crop yields, improve crop quality, and ultimately increase profits.
Viridix already has customers in Israel and abroad, such as UAE-based date producer Al Foah and Mottech Water Solutions, a distributor of Motorola solutions that helps the landscaping market in Israel and Australia through the app.
According to Start-up Nation Central, “Viridix’s autonomous irrigation solution has been proven in many cases to save up to 30% of irrigation water, making it a more efficient and friendly option for farmers and growers.”
With the new funding, Viridix will be able to expand its solutions to more farmers around the world, helping to create a more sustainable future. In 2020, the company partnered with Talgil, a manufacturer of professional irrigation controllers. Founded in 2017 and headquartered in Israel, the company operates in 22 countries worldwide. It is located in Modi’in, Israel.
