Robert Kirkman said he was relieved to write Renfield as a standalone film instead of a cinematic universe story.
Talked to GameSpotKirkman has ruled out any post-credit scenes or teasing any dangling plot threads for any spinoff or TV show.
“[The cinematic universe has] kind of [been] done by death now, where [at] At the end of the movie, they give you a preview of the movie you want to watch the whole time,” he added.
However, the screenwriter reiterated his love for the Marvel Cinematic Universe and other big film franchises, but “it’s cool to make a movie that has its own content”.
Furthermore, Kirkman likened the upcoming film to Dracula Star Wars Episode 4: A New Hope.
“The hope here is that it ends up like, you know, Star Wars: A New Hope,” Kirkman continued. “It was a self-contained movie with a beginning, middle, and end. When that movie ended, you felt like you got a complete package. But there was a world that was introduced that had a lot of different cool stuff. with it. And, you know, you can literally go anywhere with it.”
He added, “There are a bunch of threads and characters and cool aspects [Renfield] that we could have really continued the story,” he continued, but it was “unnecessary and we certainly didn’t stop the movie in any way to set that up.”
