Simon Cowell has revealed that he has given up his bad smoking habit after smoking up to 40 cigarettes a day for decades.
The music mogul said he had been trying to quit since the birth of his son Eric and found the ability to quit about three or four months ago.
“I’d say yes I’ve quit. I vape so I’m still out of the woods, but I don’t smoke. I haven’t had a cigarette in about three or four weeks,” the Britain’s Got Talent said the judge.
“I mean it’s very difficult. But you may have heard that I lost my voice a few weeks ago, when that happened I obviously couldn’t smoke.
“And then I realized. You know what, if I can get through four days, I can get through a week. I can do one week, two weeks, etc., etc. And then I just thought, well, this is the moment.
“So touch wood, maybe that’s it. I mean, it has to happen sooner or later,” he added.
He added that quitting smoking was part of a general change in his lifestyle to become healthier, which happened after he met with a life-threatening accident in 2022.
“There’s a chance that something like this happens in a big accident. And you’re lying there. And you’re completely helpless, and you can’t do anything about it,” Cowell explained.
“It’s the worst feeling in the world. And so at that point, you know that health is more important than anything else. But I’ve said that before.
“And I never thought it through properly. Now, I really think about it. That if you want to have a happy life, as much as you can, you need to put health number one. “
