Megan Murphy shined in the circle and at the plate, leading the San Rafael High softball team to a 4-1 victory over Marin Catholic on Monday.
Murphy had three hits and limited the Wildcats to four hits while tossing a complete game. Murphy struck out 12 hitters while allowing two walks.
Leadoff hitter Sophia Everett had three hits and scored twice for San Rafael (10-3, 8-1 MCAL). Gabby Rodriguez drove in two runs for the Bulldogs. Angel Amesa had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.
Lindsay Harrison had a hit and drove in the lone run for MC (9-3, 6-3).
- Paige Murphy tossed a hitting gem, striking out 15 hitters to lead Archie Williams to a 7-0 win over Tam on Monday. Murphy registered strikeouts against every hitter in Tam’s lineup and had a pair of hits of his own, scoring twice. Kennedy Dunsing had a pair of hits, drove in three and scored twice for the Peregrine Falcons (3-14, 3-6). Elisa Cobb had the lone hit for the Red-tailed Hawks (5-7, 5-4).
- Maddie Sofnas had three hits, drove in four runs and scored twice as Redwood rolled to a 19-1 victory over Terra Linda. The Giants (10-4-1, 7-2) moved into sole possession of second place with the win. Ashley Weingart (two hits, two RBIs, two runs), Kaela Sparler (two hits, three RBIs, one run), Hailey Carlton (three hits, two RBIs, three runs), and Addison Dunn (two hits, three runs) all had big offensive games for the Giants.
College softball
Former Marin Catholic High standout Rose Malen was nominated for Chapman University’s best female first-year athlete award.
Malen, a starting pitcher, helped lead the Panthers to a 20-9 record on the season with a 10-2 mark in conference play. Malen (5-4) has a team-best 1.31 earned-run average with 54 strikeouts against 11 walks in 69.1 innings of work.
Women’s lacrosse
The Dominican University program concluded its inaugural season with a win on Sunday to end the campaign with a 13-1 record.
After an 11-0 regular season, Dominican heads to the Western Women’s League playoffs for a quarterfinal matchup against UC Santa Barbara on Saturday morning.
The Penguins won the game 14-3 before falling to UCLA 11-6 in the semifinals later in the day. Dominican beat Arizona State 9-5 in Sunday’s third-place game.
Brooke Vafi (four goals) and Siena Fairbanks (three goals) led the way against the Sun Devils.
Wave of men
Elliott Nielsen shot a 72 and Sam Nielsen added a 73 to help Dominican sit in third after the first round of play at the PacWest Conference Championships at Wigwam Golf Course in Litchfield Park, Ariz.
The Penguins shot a 9-over-par 297 and sit behind second-place Holy Names (295) and leader Hawaii-Hilo (285).
Women’s golf
Claire Shubin and Angelica Antonio shot matching 76s, finishing in a tie for fifth and helping the Dominican sit in second after the first round of the PacWest Championships at the Wigwam Golf Course.
The Penguins shot 27-over 315 to tie Holy Names. Point Loma finished first with a team score of 309.
