Regal Entertainment Group, the largest movie theater chain in the United States, announced Thursday that it will reopen the former ArcLight movie theater at The Paseo shopping center in downtown Pasadena.
The ArcLight Cinemas and Pacific Theaters chains announced a year ago this month that their theaters, which had been closed due to the coronavirus pandemic, would not reopen.
Regal said it negotiated a lease with the Onni Group to operate the 14-screen theater.
The company said it will announce grand opening details soon including promotional offers and an official opening date for Regal Paseo.
“The Paseo development has long been an entertainment destination for Pasadena; however, as of 2020, it is missing an important element, a state-of-the-art theater. said Mooky Greidinger, CEO of Cineworld, Regal’s parent company. “In partnership with our new partners in the Onni Group, we are proud to be the new operators of Regal Paseo with exciting improvements to the future theater experience for this destination location.”
The reopening of the former ArcLight will bring Pasadena’s second “movie theater rescue” after Landmark Theaters entered into a long-term lease agreement for Laemmle’s Playhouse 7 movie house in May, 2022 after the chain of art movie house built by Carl Laemmle in 1938 facing closure in Pasadena.
Regal said the new theater will open in late 2023. The company also said it will offer various grand opening promotions, including discounted tickets and free popcorn.
