Pamela Chopra was a constant companion of her late husband and was often credited as the writer, costume designer and singer in some of YRF’s popular films. One of his most famous songs is Chandni’s ‘Main Sasural Nahi Jaungi’ and Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’s ‘Ghar Aaja Pardesi’ where he shared the credit with Manpreet Kaur.
The story for Yash Chopra’s 1976 film Kabhi Kabhie was written by him, and he was credited as the designer of the 1981 film Silsila. Yash Chopra, in most of his interviews, talks about Pamela’s inputs in his films and credits her as one of the foundations of Yash Raj Films, which started after they got married.
In a recent interview with PTI, Rani Mukerji, who is married to Aditya Chopra, said that it was Pamela Chopra’s influence that led Yash Chopra to write beautiful parts for women. “I really believe it has a lot to do with the influence of Pam Aunty (Pamela Chopra) in her life that pushed her to write beautiful parts for women. I am always in awe of how she presents her heroines on screen, and secretly always wish to be the quintessential ‘Yash Chopra heroine’,” she said.
