Slim Shady made his acting debut in 2002’s, 8 miles, based on his life.
While the movie and its music were successful even two decades ago, the Losing Yourself The rapper no longer has any acting credits to his name. However, that didn’t mean that was the only role he was offered.
Southpaw almost has a different feel to it, with Eminem in the lead rather than Jake Gyllenhaal.
Speaking together Business Insider, The film’s producer Peter Riche revealed that the script was actually made for Eminem.
“I thought this guy hasn’t made a movie in years, it would be interesting to him and, I dare say, a sequel to 8 Miles. Not literally in the story, but appropriate for him. We know how important it is to be a father to his daughter. We’re not afraid to go to Eminem and say this is an amazing role for you and when you get your own form it’s a tour-de-force.
After a meeting with Eminem, it seems that he is in the concept, and on the verge of agreeing to the terms. “He came out to Detroit and met with Eminem, and the feedback we got from both camps couldn’t have been better,” Peter recalls. “Basically, we’re acting like a train in a green-lit movie.”
However, he backed out of the project to work on his album, The Marshall Mathers LP 2.
However, the rapper is working on the soundtrack for the film, and wants something very memorable from it.
“We want to make sure the songs remind you of the movie years into the future. If you think You Don’t (Forget Me)you think The Breakfast Club. If you think Eye of the tigeryou think stone,” Eminem revealed at the time.
