Cranfield Aerospace Solutions (CAeS) and Dronamics include signed an MoU to further growth the application of the CAeS hydrogen fuel cell (HFC) propulsion system to the Dronamics Dim Swan cargo drone plane. This agreement confirms the position of CAeS as the preferred dealer of hydrogen fuel cell (HFC) propulsion systems to Dronamics and involves an LOI to produce a colossal number of propulsion systems from 2026, bringing CAeS’s total pipeline to over 1300 drivetrains.
The two companies include been working together since November 2022, under an earlier MOU, on a feasibility leer for the application of CAeS’s HFC skills into Dronamics’ flagship Dim Swan cargo drone plane, which is capable of carrying 350kg for as much as 2,500km.
The profitable feasibility leer has concluded that the CAeS HFC system is smartly suited to meet the required payload, cargo volume and range for the Dim Swan plane. As a end result, CAeS will fabricate an STC the same modification pack for the Dim Swan to seriously change present conventionally powered versions of the plane to a 0 emissions HFC variant in accordance with CS23 plane get requirements.
The resultant HFC propulsion system is a half of-scale version of the 250kW system being developed under Challenge Fresson (the conversion of the 9-seat Britten-Norman Islander plane to hydrogen fuel cell propulsion), validating the ability of the CAeS HFC skills to be tailored to various platform requirements.
This agreement with Dronamics provides a further path to marketplace for the modular HFCS propulsion system skills being developed by CAeS and have to restful provide Dronamics potentialities with zero-emissions cargo drone freight.
Chief Government Officer of CAeS, Paul Hutton, acknowledged:
“The preference as preferred dealer of hydrogen fuel-cell powerplants for the Dronamics Dim Swan rapid is testomony to the distinctive skills that our crew has developed and in addition to our plane integration get capabilities. Now we include got now demonstrated that we are in a position to adapt and integrate our modular hydrogen propulsion skills into various platforms, opening up worthy wider market opportunities to exploit further the CAeS gaseous HFC plane propulsion systems from 2026.”
Chief Government Officer of Dronamics, Svilen Rangelov, acknowledged:
“We are very excited to be working with CAeS on the adoption of hydrogen fuel-cell skills for our plane, having successfully executed the feasibility leer. The prospect of running flights with their emissions-free propulsion system helps further solidify our position as a frontrunner in the cargo drone market.”
