A two-year-old girl was killed and 22 were injured after an alleged Russian air strike in a residential area in the center of the Ukrainian city of Dnipro.
His body was pulled from the rubble of a house in the community of Pidhorodnenska overnight, the regional governor said.
Serhiy Lysak said five of the injured were children, with three men in serious condition at the hospital.
An earlier video shared by the Ukrainian president showed rescuers searching for bodies in a two-story building.
Volodymyr Zelensky blamed Russia for the attack, but the Kremlin has yet to comment on the events.
Explosions were also heard in the capital, Kyiv, where air defense systems have been deployed again. The entire country was placed under air raid alert earlier.
Mr Zelensky described the Dnipro explosion as a deliberate strike by Russia, although Russia has previously denied targeting civilians during its invasion of the neighboring country.
The fires broke out after an alleged strike in the city’s northern district, according to the regional governor, who said 17 of those injured in the explosion were taken to hospital.
Explosions were reported in other parts of the country. Air defense systems took part early Sunday in repelling air attacks near Kyiv, the head of the military administration of the Ukrainian capital Kyiv.
All missiles targeting the city were shot down, Serhiy Popko wrote on the Telegram messaging channel.
Officials in Sumy, in the north, recorded 87 explosions as a result of the Russian bombardment, citing damages and destruction of infrastructure.
More than a dozen explosions were also reported in the Russian-occupied southern cities of Berdyansk and Melitopol, although details were scarce. Explosions were also reported in the central town of Kropyvnitsky.
In Russia, officials said on Saturday that two more people were killed in new attacks in the border region of Belgorod.
Local authorities said Ukraine was to blame, although Ukraine itself said the deaths were the result of Russian attempts to target fighters opposed to the government in Moscow.
Kyiv denied any direct involvement, saying the attack was carried out by Russian paramilitaries.
In other developments, a close aide of President Zelensky said that his country is not yet ready to start the long-promised counter-offensive against the occupation by Russian troops.
His words appeared to contradict those of Mr Zelensky, who was quoted a day earlier as saying Ukraine was ready to begin the maneuver.
But inconsistent comments from Ukrainian officials may be a deliberate effort to confuse Moscow, the Sunday Times said.
