CULVER, Ore. (KTVZ) — An elaborate senior prank at Culver High School last week sent some ripples through the Class of 2023. An upset parent first contacted NewsChannel 21 after learning what happened. that night from their son.
A washer and dryer in front of the school Thursday morning were remnants of a recent prank at the school, which had about 200 students.
The district identified the senior students responsible for a series of pranks on Thursday, May 18.
Students allegedly TP’d (toilet-papered) the hallways and classrooms, which are easily cleaned.
But some pranks seem to leave more of a mark.
A woman who said she is a teacher in the district told us Thursday that students left graffiti including anti-gay slurs, racial slurs and swastikas on several cars in the parking lot of school.
He went on to say that a school official who can do this kind of behavior is a “slap in the face to all teachers.”
We heard from another woman who said she worked in the district office and her car was vandalized during a senior prank.
He said he plans to file a lawsuit to recover the damages.
Thursday morning, I was there because the students were coming to school. A senior student told me that he knows pranks.
I also went to the district office to talk to Superintendent Stefanie Garber, who did not want to be on camera.
Garber told us that no high-level officials allowed students to enter the building on the night of the pranks. He said he and other district officials were at a school board meeting when the pranks happened.
Jefferson County Sheriff Jason Pollock told us via text that the pranks appeared to be pre-planned with the help of a school staff member.
The sheriff later indicated in a phone call that it may have been a “high-ranking” district official who gave the students access to the building.
The superintendent said he reached out to the sheriff’s office for an explanation and believes the seniors got into the building by taking a staff member’s keys.
The caller who said he was a teacher in the district told us there was more going on that night than has been reported so far.
No one wants to go on camera to talk about the antics or the downfall of the district.
