Breaking news
It’s been almost a decade since we’ve had a spacious mummy movie, and that was when Universal tried to relaunch its terror monsters during the Dark Universe and its single entry, The Mummy. Since then, the studio’s centered on completely different monsters like Dracula and men of the invisible and wolf varities. Nonetheless if you’ve been wanting the mummified undead to make a cinematic return, Blumhouse may have your fix with a brand modern Mummy flick.
This modern movie will advance courtesy of Lee Cronin, director-author of last year’s Rank Dead Upward push. In the fast press release, Cronin teased his movie as “now not like any Mummy movie you ever laid eyeballs on sooner than. I’m digging deep into the earth to raise something very ancient and very frightening.” The movie will be co-produced by Cronin’s Doppelgängers company, Jason Blum’s Blumhouse (which has Wolf Man arriving in fair a few weeks), and James Wan’s Atomic Monster banner, which has The Monkey and M3GAN 2.0 lined up for 2025.

Notably, this upcoming Mummy movie isn’t from Universal, who distributed the failed 2017 reboot and cult-beloved Brendan Fraser-led ones of the ’90s. Instead, this modern movie is from Unique Line, which previously teamed with Cronin on Upward push and labored with Atomic Monster on the Conjuring and latest Mortal Kombat movies. Universal’s released some Unique Line movies in the past (usually for international audiences), but this appears to in any other case be in its maintain world isolated from Universal’s Mummy. Which… with a little bit of luck, they’ll find a way to bring that effectively so other folk don’t glean confused?
We’ll learn more about Lee Cronin’s The Mummy ahead of its release on April 17, 2026.
