Kosinski continued, “I grew up watching Steven’s movies — a huge inspiration to me. To see him and Tom have a conversation about this film – it’s mind blowing.
The filmmaker added that it was a pleasure to wait “two long years” to release the film in theaters and added, “I know that we made this film to be seen on the big screen and release it any other way, just wouldn’t ‘t do it justice. That’s what kept us all there while we waited and thank God we did because I think the day was perfect and the results were amazing.
Kosinski also shared that he had “a lot of incredible memories” while filming Top Gun: Maverick saying, “being on a carrier in the Pacific Ocean watching Tom catapult from the deck of an F/A-18. Great memories with my amazing crew and this cast who are thrilled I was very impressed with how well they gelled because you never know when you’re casting actors how it’s all going to come together. And to see them form this bond between them that remains to this day.”
The director is also working on his next film starring Brad Pitt about a Formula One race driver who comes out of retirement to race again. Kosinski teased that the film will “come fast” in the second half of this year. He added that he is currently immersing himself in that world, “it’s fascinating. I can’t wait to show the people behind the scenes. We will shoot on the tracks with real cars and try to get everything I know Top Gun for use in Formula One. It will be fun.”
