Fireworks were set off and a Molotov cocktail-style object was thrown outside three businesses in Washington, DC early Sunday, police said.
All three incidents occurred in about a 15-minute period northeast of Washington, DC, the Metropolitan Police Department said. No one was injured, but there was damage everywhere.
According to the police, it is believed that the suspect targeted commercial establishments and not members of the public. Each of the businesses is closed during the season.
In the first incident, the suspect fired a device on the sidewalk outside the Truist Bank ATM around 4:30 a.m. and then ran away, according to the police. Just six minutes later, the suspect detonated an explosive device on the sidewalk in front of a Nike store.
The suspect threw a Molotov cocktail-style object at a Safeway around 4:45 a.m. before driving away, officials said.
The police released a surveillance image of a suspect and a vehicle they are looking for. The vehicle is a gold or champagne colored Acura TL with Maryland license plate 17971CK.
Each of the targeted businesses is at least one mile from the US Capitol building.
The Metropolitan Police Department is investigating with the Washington Field Division of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Police are offering a reward of up to $10,000 to anyone who provides information leading to an arrest and conviction. ATF is also offering a $10,000 reward.
There may be more than one suspect in the case, police said.
