Today (Monday): Any showers and storms overnight should clear by sunrise. The rest of the morning to early afternoon should be dry and partly sunny. Temperatures will head into the afternoon highs near the 90s to low 90s, and will feel as warm as the mid-90s due to high humidity (lows around 70 degrees). Storms may develop west of the city in the early afternoon and begin moving east. It’s questionable whether they’ll coalesce into a solid lineup, but even the hit-or-miss storms look to pack a punch.
Aside from dangerous lightning, several potential severe storm threats are on the menu due to the heat, humidity and unstable atmosphere. In order of highest probability first: damaging wind gusts near or above 60 mph; big hail; torrential rain; even a tornado. Please stay tuned and check back for updates. Barring storms, afternoon winds from the south may gust around 25-30 mph. Confidence: Medium
Tonight: The threat of damaging winds and hail should begin to recede as we head into the evening hours. But strong storms may still lash the area with showers till midnight, especially in the south and east of the District. We also need to watch for potential flooding. Low temperatures will only drop into the mid 60s to 70. Confidence: Medium

Tomorrow (Tuesday): Our pesky cold front is finally approaching and starting to move through the region. An isolated morning shower is possible, and occasional clouds will help keep afternoon highs in the low to mid 80s. It’s still humid. And scattered thunderstorms are possible in the afternoon, with areas from around DC and Interstate 95 to the east having a good chance of some severe storms. Confidence: Medium
Tomorrow night: Scattered showers and thunderstorms may continue, especially south and east of the city. As the cold front moves east of us, we may get chills in the low to mid 60s. Dews are falling, slowly, indicating drier air flows. Confidence: Medium
A few light, patchy showers may move around the region Wednesday. And let’s not rule out an isolated “daily” strong thunderstorm in the mid-afternoon into the evening. Overall, however, the chance of rain is lower than Monday and Tuesday as the humidity begins to decrease. Skies will be partly cloudy, with highs in the upper 70s to low 80s, followed by Wednesday-night lows in the 60s. Confidence: Medium
High temperatures in the low to mid 80s Thursday and Friday should be accompanied by more sunlight. Still it can be comfortable, with dew points that remain relatively good for this time of year, allowing us to rest from the high humidity. A slight chance of rain or storms. Confidence: Medium
Better rain and storm chances return for weekend prediction. Probably not good for outdoor plans, but we’re still looking for more rain to break our long drought. And it’s too early for any details on the potential timing and coverage of showers and storms. Humidity increases again with highs in the mid 80s to 90. Confidence: Low-Medium
