NEWTON, Mass. (AP) — A couple celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary has been stabbed to death, along with another family member, in what law enforcement officials say may have been a random attack. attack.
The bodies were found at a home in Newton when the couple failed to arrive at church Sunday morning, police said. Police are concerned that the killer or killers may still be at large, and residents in nearby neighborhoods are urged to remain vigilant.
“Two of these individuals are celebrating a golden wedding anniversary this weekend. As you can imagine, this would be a tragedy any day. The family gathering for this type of celebration is especially sad, ” Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan said Sunday night.
A preliminary investigation showed there were signs of forced entry and the victims had been stabbed, Ryan said.
There was an attempted break-in about a half-mile from the victims’ home earlier Sunday, but it was unclear if the two crimes were related, Ryan said.
