Watch: China’s ‘spy balloon’ shot down in Atlantic Ocean
The White House says that Joe Biden ordered that a new high-altitude “object” appearing in the sky above the waters of Alaska was shot down by US fighters.
John Kirby, NSC Coordinator for Strategic Communications, told a briefing on Friday that the object was hovering over US territory at 40,000ft and was a “reasonable threat” to the safety of civilian air traffic.
Mr Kirby said the “object” was the size of a “small car” and “much, much smaller” than the spy balloon shot down last week.
Earlier, the “intact” payload from the Chinese spy balloon was found in waters off South Carolina, officials told Fox News.
The cargo, reportedly the size of a bus, has been in the Atlantic Ocean since it was shot down by US fighter jets last weekend.
Bad weather could delay payload recovery with winds of up to 35mph in the region.
The debris recovered so far has been taken to the FBI lab in Quantico, Virginia, for analysis.
So far, US intelligence has revealed that the balloon, which spent eight days in US airspace, was “part of a larger Chinese surveillance balloon program” – something Beijing continues to deny.
NATO secretary general Jens Stoltenberg said the balloon incident “proves a pattern of behavior by the Chinese” using “different types of intelligence and surveillance platforms” around the world.
Marjorie Taylor Greene outburst of spy balloon briefing revealed
Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene reportedly screamed and cursed at Biden administration officials during a closed-door briefing for not shooting down the Chinese spy balloon earlier.
Ms Greene seemed proud of herself when she recounted the meeting.
“I had to wait in line the whole time. I think I’m the second to last person, and I chew them like the Americans do,” Ms Greene said. The Hill. “I tore them apart.”
House lawmakers were asked to attend a classified debriefing Thursday about the shot down of the alleged spy balloon.
A legislator attended the meeting and spoke The Hill said Ms Greene, whooping and screaming.
“When he asked, he screamed, saying ‘bulls***’ and, you know ‘I don’t believe you,'” the lawmaker told the outlet. “Just screaming and yelling, unreasonable in my estimation.”

White House says ‘thing’ the size of ‘small car’
“We call it a ‘thing’ because that’s the best description we have at the moment,” Mr Kirby said.
“We don’t know who owns it, whether it’s state-owned or corporate-owned or privately owned, we just don’t know.
“We do not understand the full purpose, we do not have any information to prove a stated purpose for this matter.
“We expect to recover the debris because it fell not only within our territory but what we believe is frozen water. A recovery effort will be made and we hope it will be successful and we will learn more about it.
“It’s much, much smaller than the spy balloon we took on Saturday.
“The way it is described to me is almost the size of a small car as opposed to a payload the size of two or three buses. Smaller and uneven, no significant cargo if you will. “

John Kirby gives the details of the shooting of the new object in the waters of Alaska
“I can confirm that the Department of Defense has been tracking a high-altitude object in the air over Alaska for the past 24 hours,” Mr Kirby said on Friday from the White House briefing room.
“The object was flying at an altitude of 40,000 ft and posed a reasonable threat to the safety of civilian aviation. Out of an abundance of caution and at the recommendation of the Pentagon President Biden ordered the military to bring the object down, and they did .
“It came within our territorial waters, those waters are now frozen, but within our territorial airspace. Fighter aircraft assigned to the US Northern Command picked up the object within the last hour.
