The Aiken Civic Orchestra has two upcoming concerts featuring only strings.
On SundayMarch 19, the Aiken Civic Orchestra will perform a concert titled Sensational Strings at 7 pm in St. John’s United Methodist Church, 104 Newberry St.
Part of the Under the Steeple concert series, this performance features the orchestra’s string section. Students from the Davidson Fine Arts Chamber Orchestra will join the ACO strings for a side-by-side experience for a large string orchestra under the direction of ACO Music Director Adam DePriest.
Included in the program are “Eine kleine Nachtmusik” by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, “Concerto Grosso No. 1” by Ernest Bloch, “Por Una Cabeza” by Carlos Gardel and other works. The student orchestra will also have its own feature in the program with “Lullaby” by George Gershwin. The DFA Chamber Orchestra under the direction of Dr. Laura Tomlin, and they joined the ACO in April for the Celebrating Young Artists concert.
The Aiken Viola Ensemble will make its debut on Sunday, March 26, as part of the ACO’s Aiken Chamber Music Series. This concert will take place at 3 pm in the grounds of St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church. Audience members are encouraged to bring their own chairs.
The Aiken Viola Ensemble is under the direction of Douglas Temples and everything on the program is written or arranged for viola only.
Both concerts have a suggested donation of $20.
