ALBUQUERQUE, NM – Police charged 18-year-old Abraham Corral Alvarez after four bystanders were injured in a street racing crash in northwest Albuquerque.
According to Albuquerque police, Abraham Corral Alvarez has been charged with three counts of vehicular homicide for his role in the crash on Saturday night.
Initially, Albuquerque Fire Rescue said they received reports of two cars racing down Central Avenue around 10:30 p.m. on Saturday.
In an update Sunday, APD said witnesses saw three cars racing through the streets Saturday night in west Central.
According to police, the driver lost control near 4801 Central Avenue NW and ran into pedestrians lined up at a food truck.
Police said three of the four injured pedestrians were taken to hospital. Two are in critical condition and the third is in stable condition.
Bernalillo County deputies arrested Corral-Alvarez, the driver of the black Chrysler that struck the pedestrians. The other drivers fled the scene.
Authorities say Corral-Alvarez was driving drunk. They said he was charged with vehicular homicide because three of the victims suffered serious life-threatening injuries.
Police are looking for other drivers involved in the race. Anyone with information is asked to call (505)-242-COPS.
