More than a thousand people participated in the 2023 Palm Desert Senior Games & International Sports Festival this year.
This is the 20th year the event has been held. This is part of a series of competitions taking place in California. Athletes come from all over the United States to compete.
The games began on January 30 and run through February 5, 2023, at multiple Palm Desert locations.
Some of the individual competitions include 9-hole golf, track and field, pickleball, and tennis. Team competitions include volleyball, soccer, and beach volleyball.
This year the oldest person to participate was 95 years old. The median age of the participants was 66 years old according to Christian Liliedahl Allen, an instructor at the Desert Recreation District.
The event is free to the public.
