A man was fatally shot on the northbound side of the Walnut-Locust platform on the Broad Street Line on Saturday afternoon, according to a SEPTA spokeswoman.
No one else was injured, said SEPTA spokesman Andrew Busch.
The shooting appeared to be the result of a fight between two men shortly after 2:30 p.m., Busch said. Although authorities were still gathering details late Saturday night, Busch said the argument escalated when one man pulled out a gun and shot the other.
According to Busch, the suspected shooter was taken into custody by the SEPTA police and a weapon was recovered. No additional suspects were immediately sought, Busch said.
According to the Philadelphia police, the victim was shot several times in the left leg and was taken to Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 3 pm.
Busch said the southbound Broad Street Line was busier than usual Saturday because of the extra service SEPTA is offering for the Phillies-Reds game, which starts at 4:05 p.m. It was not immediately clear what the Northbound Walnut-Locust stop is busy. during the shooting.
Broad Street Line service was disrupted for several hours while law enforcement processed the scene, with shuttle buses augmenting service. The Broad Street Line was fully reopened by early evening, according to Busch.
The police have not yet released the names of the victim and the suspect.
On March 29, two people were hospitalized in stable condition after being shot inside the Snyder station on the Broad Street Line.
